| Abstract | This summarizes the results of adopting an application server approach for the integration of clinical information systems and the benefits that this approach provides to health care delivery organizations. We describe our experience with the integration of Baby CareLink, a NICU telemedicine application, and CareWeb, a virtual patient record system that integrates clinical information distributed among systems located on the campuses of the BI-Deaconess Medical Center. The results of these efforts lead us to conclude that similar integration efforts could be pursued with other systems both within and outside our institution, establishing a reference framework for such activity. |
