| Abstract | This paper discusses the application of the microcomputer to the estimation of infant and childhood mortality from survivorship statistics. The computer program that has been developed computes these mortality estimates using two approaches: first by the classical Brass method which is undoubtedly the earliest and probably the most well-established of the indirect techniques; and second the Trussell variant of the Brass method which replaces the analytical fertility and mortality models of the Brass method with empirical schedules. The program also gives time locations to which the various infant and childhood mortality estimates apply, using Feeney's method. |
