| Abstract | A two-page questionnaire was sent to directors of all 233 residency programs listed in the 1986/1987 Directory of Residency Training Programs. The questionnaire was designed to determine the frequency and pattern of use of computers in their programs. Responses were received from 156 (67%) of the programs surveyed. A greater percentage of large and medium residency programs (53% and 52%) used computers compared with small programs (32%). The most common application of computers was research and data processing. Computers were also used for unit lessons, patient simulations, testing and evaluation, and lecture aids. However, about one-half of the respondents never used computers for educational purposes. |
