Abstract This paper describes the use of a short computer program designed for use in a pediatric hospital ward. The program performs metric conversions, obviates the need for normograms for body surface area and base excess determinations, and rapidly and accurately computes parenteral fluid mixtures, medication doses, creatinine clearance, erythrocyte sedimentation rate corrections, and serum osmolality. The program was written for the Radio Shack PC-1 pocket computer and was subsequently adapted to the Timex Sinclair 1000 computer with 16 KB RAM.
